NHL Bets in Crypto: Regulation Time, Puck Line and Goalies
Sport · Ice hockey
Most NHL mistakes on a betting slip come from one line: whether the bet ends after 60 minutes or after overtime and the shootout. This page explains that split, the puck line and totals, how back-to-backs change the goalie picture, and when the 2026/27 season is played on Canadian and British clocks.

Crypto hockey betting on the NHL has one trap that costs more new bettors than any bad pick: reading a 60-minute market as if it were the final result. A team can win the game and still lose your bet, because the bet ended when the third period did. Get that line right and the rest of an NHL slip, the puck line, the totals and the goalie question, becomes much easier to read.
The 2026/27 NHL season on a Canadian or British clock
The NHL's schedule for 2026/27 opened on Tuesday 29 September 2026 and runs to Saturday 10 April 2027. It is the first 84-game season since 1993/94: 1,344 games across 194 days. Opening night already gave Canadian fans Montreal at Toronto at 7 p.m. Eastern and Vancouver at Edmonton at 10 p.m. Eastern. Winnipeg and Montreal meet outdoors in the Heritage Classic on 25 October.
For crypto hockey betting from Britain the clock is the problem. London is normally five hours ahead of New York, so a 7 p.m. Eastern start is midnight in the UK for most of the season. For one week this autumn the gap closes to four hours: the UK changes its clocks on 25 October 2026 and the US on 1 November 2026, and during that week the same game starts at 11 p.m. in London. A 10 p.m. Eastern start in Western Canada begins at 3 a.m. in London and ends in the small hours of the British morning.
The league has also added Monday matinee games aimed at European prime time, and two Global Series pairs are played in Europe:
- Carolina Hurricanes against Seattle Kraken in Helsinki on 12 and 14 November 2026;
- Chicago Blackhawks against Ottawa Senators in Düsseldorf on 18 and 20 December 2026.
The schedule breaks for the holidays from 23 to 25 December and for the All-Star weekend from 4 to 7 February 2027, with the All-Star Game on 6 February.
60-minute result against the result with overtime
This is the distinction crypto hockey betting turns on.
A 60-minute or regulation-time market is settled on the score at the end of the third period. It has three outcomes: home win, draw, away win. If the game is level after 60 minutes, the draw wins and both win bets lose, whatever happens next.
A market that includes overtime and shootout has two outcomes. In the regular season, a game level after 60 minutes goes to five minutes of three-on-three overtime, and the first goal ends it. If nobody scores, a shootout follows: three shooters a side, then one at a time until one side scores and the other misses. The winner gets two points in the standings and the loser one.
| Market | Outcomes | Settled at | A 2–2 game won in a shootout |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60-minute result | Home, draw, away | End of third period | Draw wins |
| Result incl. overtime | Home, away | Final recorded score | Shootout winner wins |
| Puck line -1.5 | Covers or not | Per the operator's hockey rule | Favourite loses |
| Total goals | Over or under | Depends on the operator's rule | Recorded as 3–2 |
If you want to back a favourite without the risk of a tie after regulation, you need the two-way market, and you pay for that with a shorter price.
Puck line ±1.5 and why overtime always means one goal
The puck line is hockey's standard handicap: the favourite at -1.5 must win by two or more, the underdog at +1.5 must lose by no more than one. Overtime makes the arithmetic simple. Regular-season overtime ends at the first goal, and the NHL records a shootout win as one more goal than the opponent, no matter how many shots go in. Every game decided after regulation therefore finishes with a one-goal margin, so -1.5 cannot win once a game reaches overtime.
That is why the favourite's puck line often depends on the last two minutes. A team trailing by one late in the third may pull its goalie for an extra skater. Sometimes it scores and forces overtime; sometimes it concedes into the empty net and the favourite covers -1.5. Check whether the operator settles the puck line on regulation time or on the final score; it is written in the ice hockey section of the terms. For a refresher on how decimal prices turn into probabilities, the odds guide covers it in plain steps.
Totals, goalies and back-to-backs
An NHL total is a line on combined goals, for example over or under 6.5 (an example, not a live price); the line moves with each matchup. Two things move a total more than anything else: who is in goal and how rested the teams are.
The NHL's own count shows how uneven the schedule is. Pittsburgh has 15 back-to-back sets in 2026/27, the most in the league; Calgary and Vegas have eight each, the fewest. A goalie who played last night is the obvious candidate for a rest, so the second night of a back-to-back is where a backup is most likely to start. Before a totals bet on such a night, wait until the starting goalie is confirmed. A total priced for the number one goalie is a different bet if the backup starts.
Two more checks are worth a minute:
- whether the total includes overtime and the shootout goal, which the operator's terms decide;
- whether the price you took was set before or after the starting goalies were named.
European leagues in brief
For British and Irish readers who prefer evening games on their own clock, European hockey fills the gap. The Champions Hockey League began its 2026/27 season on 3 September 2026, its playoffs start on 10 November and the one-game final is on 23 February 2027. Domestic leagues in Sweden, Finland, Switzerland and Germany run through the winter, and the UK has its own Elite Ice Hockey League. The 60-minute rule applies there in the same way: read the market name before the price.

NHL winnings often land overnight for readers in Britain, and the first thing that can stall them is an identity check rather than the blockchain. The operators below are chosen and ordered by what their terms say about documents.

Vave may ask for documents before any withdrawal at its discretion and gives 14 days to supply them under clause 8.7. Bitcasino.io names withdrawals above €2,500 under clause 6.6. Rocketpot names withdrawals above 0.05 BTC or $2,500 under clause 11.4. BetPlays asks at the first withdrawal under clause 6.1. Rainbet gives 72 hours to send documents; Metaspins and Rocketpot allow 30 days. If you plan crypto hockey betting through a whole season, sending documents early saves a stalled payout in April. The Vave review sets out the full clause list, and the bitcoin betting sites page compares the cashiers that take BTC.
Canadian and British readers will find local detail on the Canada page and the UK page. Esports runs on a similar overnight rhythm; the esports page covers that side.
A season-long bankroll
An 84-game season gives every team a game most nights, and that is a lot of slips. Crypto hockey betting is easier to keep under control with a fixed amount per week and a rule against chasing a loss into the late Western games. Our responsible gambling page lists the tools and the support lines. Read the market name, confirm the goalie, and decide whether you are betting on 60 minutes or on the whole night.
Hockey shares its autumn with the end of the MLB season; our crypto baseball betting page covers the run line, the puck line's closest relative.
Hockey totals and puck lines carry the same arithmetic as football goal lines; see both teams to score and a betting strategy.
