A betting plan that survives a bad month: units, records and the right markets
Guide · Strategy
No system turns a bookmaker's margin into a sure profit. What a sound approach does is keep stakes in proportion, make every bet measurable and steer you towards markets where your judgement has a chance. This guide covers those three parts and the popular systems that fail.

A betting strategy worth the name has three parts: a rule for how much to stake, a record that lets you check your judgement, and a habit of choosing markets where the margin is low and your knowledge is high. None of it promises profit. The bookmaker's margin is built into every price, and the plan exists to stop that margin and bad luck from doing more damage than they must.

The bankroll comes first
Before any market, decide on a bankroll: a sum set aside for betting that you could lose entirely without it touching rent, bills or savings. Keep it apart from everything else, ideally as a separate balance in a single coin. A dollar stablecoin works well because the number you see on Monday means the same on Friday.
Then define a unit. Most careful bettors use 1 to 2 per cent of the bankroll. With 500 USDT set aside, a 1 per cent unit is 5 USDT. That feels small, and it is meant to: it lets you survive the long losing runs that happen to every bettor, skilled or not. If your starting sum is modest, the low deposit crypto betting sites page shows which cashiers print a minimum and which networks keep a small transfer affordable.
Staking plans compared
There are three plans worth considering. The numbers below follow a 500 USDT bankroll through two losing runs, an example rather than a forecast:
| Plan | Rule | After 10 straight losses | After 20 straight losses |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat stakes | 5 USDT every bet | 450 USDT | 400 USDT |
| Percentage | 1% of the current bankroll | 452.19 USDT | 408.95 USDT |
| Martingale | Double after each loss, from 5 USDT | Seventh stake cannot be covered | Out of the game |
Flat stakes are the simplest to follow and to audit. Percentage staking shrinks the bet as the bankroll falls and grows it as the bankroll rises, which slows a slide. Fractional Kelly, explained in the guide to value betting, sizes each stake to the estimated edge, and only makes sense once you have a record that shows your estimates are any good.
The martingale row is the warning. Stakes of 5, 10, 20, 40, 80 and 160 USDT add up to 315 USDT. The seventh bet needs 320 USDT and only 185 USDT is left. At prices near 1.91 on a fair coin, seven losses in a row come up roughly once in every 128 sequences, which over a season is close to a certainty.
Keeping a record you can audit
A betting strategy without a record is a mood. Log every slip, including the ones you would rather forget:
- Sport, competition and market
- Price taken, and the closing price just before the start
- Stake and the coin it was placed in
- Result and profit or loss in coin
- Value of the profit in your home currency on the day you withdraw
Two numbers come out of this. Return on turnover is total profit divided by total staked: an example of 36 USDT profit on 1,200 USDT staked across 240 bets is 3 per cent. The second is how often your price beat the closing price. The first swings wildly over a few hundred bets; the second settles much sooner and is the better early sign of skill.
Choosing markets on purpose
Where you bet matters as much as how much. Three filters help:
- Margin. Major match markets usually carry a smaller margin than player specials or niche totals, but measure it rather than assume. The explainer on vig shows how to add up a market in under a minute.
- Knowledge. A lower league you follow closely can be a better place to bet than a famous one where every price has already been worked over by professionals.
- Pace. In-play prices move with each point or attack, leaving little time to think and often a wider margin. The page on live crypto betting sites covers what live betting costs while the clock runs.
The cashier is part of the plan
Every deposit and withdrawal costs a network fee, and a plan built around frequent small transfers pays it many times. Batch your movements: one deposit for a fortnight of betting rather than one per match day. Choose a coin and network with a low fee for small amounts; the BNB betting sites page explains what a transfer on that chain costs and how fast it settles.
The coin also affects how you read your results. If the bankroll is in bitcoin, a 10 per cent move in the coin can outweigh a month of good or bad betting. Keeping score in a stablecoin, or at least converting the record into one, keeps the betting result separate from the coin result.
What does not work
Most systems that circulate on forums fail for the same reason: they rearrange stakes without changing the price you pay.
- Doubling up. The martingale and its relatives trade many small wins for one very large loss, as the table above shows.
- Chasing. Raising stakes to recover a bad day is the martingale without a written rule, and usually faster.
- Due outcomes. A team that has drawn five times in a row is not owed a win. Each match is priced on its own.
- Long parlays as a plan. Combining many legs multiplies the margin; a big headline return does not make the bet cheaper.
- Bonus-led betting. A welcome offer comes with wagering terms that decide whether it is worth anything. Read them first; the bonus crypto betting sites page explains what to look for in that wording.
When the plan says stop
Write down a loss limit for a day and for a month, and stop when you reach either. Use the deposit limits that operators offer, and treat any urge to break your own staking rule as a signal to pause. The responsible gambling page lists the tools and where to find help.
For the operators themselves, the board of crypto betting platforms on the main page compares coins, payout windows and limits, which is the next step once the plan is written down.
