SOL for late bets: fees, base58 addresses and the token-account catch

Coin · Solana

Solana moves a deposit in under a second for a fraction of a cent, which makes it the coin for a bet decided close to kick-off. The catches sit elsewhere: a minimum balance your wallet must keep, and stablecoins that travel as separate tokens.

Team news drops an hour before the match, the price you wanted is still there, and your betting balance is empty. That is the situation Solana handles better than most coins. A transfer settles in under a second and the network fee is counted in fractions of a cent, so a deposit sent after the line-ups appear can be in the account before the market moves. The catches are smaller and more technical, and they are what this page is about.

Solana betting sites that list SOL

Five operators in our data name SOL in their cashier or terms: Wild.io, Rakebit, Rainbet, DuckDice and CoinPoker. Vave stays at the top of the table as it does on every page of the site, but its cashier does not include SOL. Its coins are BTC, ETH, USDT, LTC, DOGE and TON, so a Solana holder would have to swap before depositing there.

Why SOL suits a bet placed late

Three numbers from solana.com explain why Solana betting sites work for late money. Slots now target 250 milliseconds, down from 400. The payments documentation says transactions settle in under a second. The base fee is 5,000 lamports per signature, and a lamport is a billionth of a SOL, so a standard transfer costs 0.000005 SOL in base fee. Half of that is burned and half goes to the validator. A priority fee can be added on top when the network is busy; it is optional and goes entirely to the validator.

Compare that with ether, where the fee floats with demand and a small deposit can cost more than the stake; our Ethereum page covers the difference. On Solana the network leg of a deposit is close to instant and close to costless.

What is left is the cashier's own step. Solana betting sites do not publish how long they wait before crediting a SOL deposit, so the speed you see depends on the operator as well as the chain. Before you rely on SOL for a late bet, send one deposit on a quiet afternoon and time it. If it lands in a minute, you know what that cashier does.

Base58 addresses: what to check

A Solana address is a 32-byte public key written in the base58 alphabet, the same alphabet bitcoin uses. The result is a string of 32 to 44 characters made of digits and letters, with the easily confused characters 0, O, I and l left out. It looks nothing like an Ethereum address, which starts with 0x.

That difference protects you in one direction. A wallet set to Solana will not accept a 0x address, so the cross-network mistake that catches ether users is much harder to make here. The checks that remain are basic ones: copy the address from the cashier rather than typing it, compare the first and last few characters after pasting, and make sure the deposit screen names Solana as the network.

The rent-exempt minimum in your wallet

Every Solana account must hold a refundable minimum balance, proportional to the data it stores, to remain on-chain. solana.com gives the formula as the account size plus 128 bytes, times 3,480 lamports per byte-year, times two years. For a plain wallet account that comes to 890,880 lamports, or 0.00089088 SOL.

Three practical effects for a bettor:

  1. A wallet you plan to keep using needs that minimum plus the fee left in it, because the account has to hold the minimum to stay on-chain.
  2. A withdrawal of a very small amount to a brand-new, empty address can be refused, because the transfer would create an account below the minimum. The exchange guide on solana.com tells services to reject such transfers.
  3. Receiving a token for the first time needs a token account, which also holds rent. solana.com's payments page puts the cost of creating one at about 0.0029 SOL, usually paid by the sender.

None of these sums matters for the size of a bet. They matter when a deposit or withdrawal fails for a reason the cashier does not explain.

SOL accepted does not mean USDC on Solana accepted

USDC and USDT both run on Solana as SPL tokens. Each has its own mint address, the account that issues it:

  • USDC: EPjFWdd5AufqSSqeM2qN1xzybapC8G4wEGGkZwyTDt1v
  • USDT: Es9vMFrzaCERmJfrF4H2FYD4KCoNkY11McCe8BenwNYB

A token is not held at your SOL address. It sits in a separate token account, one per wallet and per mint, known as the associated token account, and solana.com notes that tokens cannot be sent to a token account that does not yet exist.

For the cashier, “SOL” in the coin list means it watches native SOL. Whether it also credits USDC or USDT sent over Solana is a separate setting. Wild.io and Rakebit list USDT and USDC as well as SOL, but their coin lists do not say on which network those stablecoins arrive. Check the deposit screen for the stablecoin itself: it should name Solana. If it names Ethereum or TRON, a Solana transfer will not be credited. When you buy the token, check that the mint in your wallet matches the one above; the solana.com exchange guide tells services to verify the mint for the same reason. Our USDT network guide goes through the same choice for the dollar token.

Taking SOL back out

On Solana betting sites, speed on the way out depends far more on the operator than on Solana. Wild.io prints 10–60 minutes. Rakebit caps withdrawals at €10,000 per 24 hours. DuckDice and CoinPoker print no payout time in the terms we hold. Once the operator approves, the network part is the sub-second transfer described above.

On the withdrawal form, give a Solana address you control and make sure it already holds a little SOL, for the rent reason above. If you withdraw a stablecoin, the receiving wallet needs a token account for it, which the sender normally creates. Operators sorted by printed payout time are on our fast withdrawal page.

A checklist for the last-minute deposit

Across all Solana betting sites, five checks catch most failed SOL deposits:

  1. The deposit screen names Solana and the coin you are sending: SOL, or a named token.
  2. The address is 32 to 44 base58 characters and the ends match what the cashier shows.
  3. Your wallet keeps more than the rent minimum after the fee.
  4. The cashier has been timed once with a test deposit before a match that matters.
  5. The stake is one you set before the line-ups, not after.

Speed makes it easy to deposit again after a loss. Our responsible gambling page explains how to set limits before that happens.

Which Solana betting sites accept SOL?
Among the operators we compare, Wild.io, Rakebit, Rainbet, DuckDice and CoinPoker name SOL in their cashier or terms. Vave, listed first across the site, does not take SOL; its coins are BTC, ETH, USDT, LTC, DOGE and TON.
What does a SOL deposit cost in network fees?
The base fee is 5,000 lamports per signature, which is 0.000005 SOL; solana.com puts it at well under a cent. An optional priority fee can be added on top. Half of the base fee is burned and half goes to the validator.
Why should I leave some SOL in my wallet?
Solana accounts must hold a refundable minimum balance to stay on-chain. For a basic wallet account that is 890,880 lamports, about 0.00089 SOL. Keep a little more than that, plus the fee, in any wallet you plan to reuse.
Can I send USDC on Solana where the cashier lists SOL?
Not on the strength of the SOL line alone. USDC on Solana is a separate SPL token held in a token account. Only send it if the deposit screen names both the token and the Solana network.
